Question:
JazkAllah Khair for uploading the lectures. I was listening to lecture 12 and I’ve a

question regarding vinegar. So using vinegar in food is not allowed? Please explain.

Jazkallah Khair.

Answer:
Praises are to Allah, and peace be upon prophet Muhammed.

Grapes go through the following tranformations, and in some cases
the the ruling changes after a transformation:

1. Grapes Halal Pure
2. Juice Halal Pure
3. Alcohol Haram Impure
4. Vinegar Halal Pure/Impure

As long as the vinegar has been completely transformed, and
there is no intoxicant remaining, it is allowed to consume. It
should be given sufficient enough time so that it has completely
transformed.

There is a difference of opinion amongst the ulema whether
vinegar in considered pure or impure, which would affect the ruling
of utilizing vinegar for other uses besides consumption.

And Allah knows.

Question:

I was wondering if one muslimah saw a handsome guy walk by and felt a quick butterfly in stomach-choking feeling and possibly some fluid come out. Does this require ghusl? Or is this like madhy? If not, then I think some people would have to make ghusl every five minutes. ps i do try to avert my gaze, or change the channel, but tv also has unavoidable quick suggestive scenes in them.

Answer:

Honorable sister,

Praises are to Allah. In the time of prophet Muhammed, may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, a woman came to prophet Muhammed,  may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, and asked him if she had a wet dream, does she have to do a full ghusl (complete washing). He,  may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, replied: Yes if she notices a discharge.

For men and women, there are different things that emit from the two pathways. Generally speaking, they require cleaning off the fluid, and renewing wudhu. Except in the case of manee “manee”, i.e. fluid that gives form to a new life. In the case of manee, it would require a full ghusl.

Madhi, which is translated as preseminal fluid, or preejaculate, is considered impure by most of the ulema, and requires washing it from the body, and neccesitates a new wudhu. However the view of the Hanafi school considers it for women to be like sweat, and does not require making a new wudhu.

It should be known that looking at someone that is not one’s husband in a sexual manner, whether physically, through magazines, films, television, or describing events through an erotic way is haram. Allah says in the Quran in Surah Nur:

وَقُل لِّلۡمُؤۡمِنَـٰتِ يَغۡضُضۡنَ مِنۡ أَبۡصَـٰرِهِنَّ وَيَحۡفَظۡنَ فُرُوجَهُنّ}

“And tell the believing women to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts) “

Zina is haram and anything that leads on the path of zina is also haram. One should turn away one’s glances, and seek a halal (allowed) way to fulfill one’s desires through marriage. One should avoid flirting, and minimize talking to only things of neccesity.

You see, prophet Muhammed, May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, discouraged women from going to the masajid because of temptations. What then about other situations?

And Allah knows.

Shaikh Sajid.

Question:

Asak, It is really difficult to identify all the haraam ingredients in our common grocery items such as chips, cookies, cheese, seasoning, ice cream etc etc. Is there any authentic resource for muslims in the west, where we can verify that the products we are purchasing contain prohibited ingredients or not ?

Also to what extent should we be cautious about these ingredients ?

Answer:

All praise is due to Allah.

Determining the orgin of derived ingredients in food products is a common source of concern for Muslims. Many scholars state that impure ingredients that undergo a transformation, i.e. those that change into a new substance and new form, are no longer considered impure and become halal.

For example, when wine, which is impure, changes into vinegar, many scholars state that it has become purified.

What is of concern is the current state of the ingredients and whether they fall under one of the categories of food that are forbidden for consummtion.

This determination must not be done by a lay person; rather it is the work of the scholars who research these issues in depth and have knowledge of the Shari’ah. The Ulema should be the ones who clarify the ruling, and it is not permissable to speak about Allah without knowledge.

At the same time, one must respect the differences of opinion amongst the various schools of thought, and not become upset if another person is following an opinion given to him by a knowledgable scholar. It is possible that a difference of opinion exists over a particular ingredient (such as rennet, for example) just as differences exist in general between the four madhaahab.

Finally, it is important to ask the people of knowledge regarding what one eats just as it is important to learn about any other aspect of life and whether it is halal or haram, in order that one may avoid disobeying Allah by permitting what He has forbidden or forbidding what He has made permissable.

And Allah knows best.

Question:

assalamu alaikum! My question was in regards to dogs in the house. do angels come into a person house if they have a dog?I heard they wouldnt enter the house but to me that wouldnt make sense considering they arent totally prohibited if there for protection, used for the blind, hunting etc..my other question is what if you started off having a dog as a pet but later use it or them for protection meaning they bark to let you know when someone is in or around the house is this okay? I just need clearification because im hearing many opinions.

Answer:

All praise is due to Allah.

Walaikum salam wrt wb, may Allah reward you for your question.

Keeping a dog inside of one’s house is prohibited. The Messenger of Allah, may the blessings of Allah and peace be upon him, stated in Bukhari: “The angels do not enter a home in which there is a dog.”

In another narration, Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) stated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever keeps a dog, except a dog for herding, hunting or farming, one qiraat (large amount of reward) will be deducted from his reward each day.” Narrated by Muslim

The way we understand these two texts together is that the dog kept for herding, hunting, or farming must be kept outside of the house.

Regarding keeping a guard dog, the scholars permitted this provided it does not enter the house, and one takes care that its saliva does not soil one’s vessels, clothing, and body, etc. This is because the saliva of a dog is considered a physical impurity which would invalidate ritual purity by the majority of the Ulema.

An exception is made for a seeing-eye dog that belongs to a blind person, since the Ulema state that “necessities permit the forbidden.”

And Allah knows best.

Question:

While exerting myself I found that some white fluid gushed forth from my private part, do I have to make ghusl from this?

Answer:

All praise is due to Allah.

The emission of this fluid requires one to make ghusl. The Prophet salla Allahu ‘alahi wa salam stated: “The water (of ghusl) is due from the water (manee).”

Manee is a white fluid that is emitted with a gush and is followed by relaxation. This may occur due to relations with one’s spouse, or during sleep, or due to exertion or excitement.

These other types of fluid that exit the private part only require one to perform wudu:

1.) urine

2.) madhy: clear sticky fluid that is emitted slowly while having thoughts about the opposite gender

3.) wady: small amount of white fluid that is emitted due to cold or after urination.

And Allah knows best.
